4 Amazing Ways To Get More Traffic From Existing Content

Goal for this teardown : How Bloggers can get more Organic Traffic from existing content

Today I will analyze Carob Cherub which is a blog run by Sara B. She is a Vegan nutritionist who talks about healthy recipes, healthy living on her blog.

Let us first take a look at Organic Traffic for the website:

Now the numbers may not match actual Google Analytics number but I am referring to Ahrefs for my analysis & it is the best tool to gauge Organic Traffic for a website.

The site has started picking up on Google & this shows the potential that site can achieve if we properly optimize already ranking pages.

Also the site is ranking for lots of keywords almost close to 6,000 which again is a great advantage. Most of the keywords right now may not be on first page but they can be targeted in the content to improve their rankings. I will cover that in detail a little bit later.

Now let us see what are the top pages ranking for this website:

Great, so a page on whether Subway Sandwiches are healthy is bring the most traffic from Google & is ranking for so many keywords. Don’t jump though, not all keywords are on first page, but that is why Onpage optimization is important.

Let us take a look at the page keywords (To make things easier I am only looking for keywords above 90 Volume & sort by traffic):

What do these keywords tell us? These tell us that these keywords were probably used in the content somewhere (maybe not at right spots). How can we improve the rankings for these keywords?


Strategy For First Page Ranked Keywords 

For keywords in position 2-10 it is best to just pass some internal links from a highly linked pages on Sara’s blog and the link juice will be enough to propel these keywords to the top. As simple as that!

What are those top linked pages?

These are top linked pages on her blog. Easiest thing is to use homepage & add a link to ‘Subway Healthy’ page & I am pretty use Sara can see the movement on her keywords. Also there are other pages she can use to add a contextual link (link added from the content).


Strategy For Mid Ranked Keywords 

Now let us focus on keywords currently around 10-20 mark. These are keywords which are mentioned but probably we can highlight these better like use in H2, H3 headings & add a 100 word paragraph to help Google rank her article for these keywords.

Focus on this keyword for example, it is ranked 8 but still :

This is pretty solid keyword (1,000 monthly searches) & she is ranking on 8 already. Now let us see where these keywords are used in her article:

I could not find mention of Healthiest bread but the closest use was The Bread in a H2/H3 header. Now look at additional traffic she could get if she just optimizes her heading from ‘The Bread’ to ‘What is the healthiest bread at Subway’?

She can improve her rankings for all the keywords related to Healthiest Bread at Subway. Just look at the traffic numbers & she is ranking pretty much in 8-20 positions.


Strategy For Low Ranked Keywords

Now one final thing let us look at keywords for which she is ranking outside Top 20. These keywords are a potential opportunity for her to write new content around those keywords in the same article & pretty soon those keywords will start to rank in Top 20.

I found some nice keywords around a topic she could include in her article, just have a look at traffic she is currently missing out on:

So I could not find any section which mentions about actual calories in each of the Subway Sandwiches or Cookies. That is why the article currently ranks badly on those keywords. But worry not throw an additional 500 words paragraph with right set of keywords used & I am certain that these rankings will improve by leaps & bounds.


Strategy For Keywords Currently Not Ranked For

There are whole other topics that I found she can write about and start ranking for these which are currently not getting captured in the article. Some topics that I highlighted relate to Subway Soups, Subway Salads, Subway Sauces, Subway Menu Calories.

So in short in this article we learnt 4 key things:

  1. Interlinking Pages so that keywords already in Top 10 can rank better.
  2. Improving On Page Elements like headings etc. to improve rankings for keywords in 11-20 range.
  3. Writing additional content for keywords outside Top 20 & improving ranking for those keywords.
  4. For keywords you are not targeting currently search for related topics & add relevant content so that your article starts ranking for totally new keywords.

This is a simple teardown of how bloggers can optimize their existing content to rank higher in Google.
